LinkInternet Explorer & CSS IssuesMar 16, '08 8:19 PM
by Linda for everyone

Trying to get CSS-based websites to look the same across all browsers can often be difficult. Many of the problems however lie with Internet Explorer implementing CSS commands differently to other, more standards compliant browsers. All is not lost, however, as many of the differences you see across browsers are caused by the same Internet Explorer CSS issues...

Me too.. Or at least as a reference. I thought the IE vs.Firefox discussion warranted more information for everyone.

thank you for this link.

I tried the https:// etc. site and there is supposedly a security issue with it, so I'm unable to access it. Not going to worry about.

I'm just going to stick with what works best for my laptop. Should I ever have a work horse of a computer again, I'll give FF another shot.

Thanks Luiz... lol I took off the s to parse it.

Thanks for the link :)
Very good.
Hope IE8 has some improvements in this field...once it's released.

It's a Micro$oft blog, no wonder why it has certificate problems since they can't even make a browser that comply to standards... =P

I hate Microsoft and no way am I going to voluntarily try their IE8...it's beta and I'm sick to death of beta. It's also no doubt worse than 7.

I tried the https link and it said the security certificate had expired.
stormkings wrote on Mar 16

I was able to view it, but reading all of that stuff was like reading greek to me (uhh, which I can't do, lol). All I can say is that where dantcer's second link (preparing for IE&) reads:

"The good news is that Microsoft has made a number of CSS bug fixes12 to Internet Explorer 7, so much of the weird behaviour in Internet Explorer should cease.", I'd still say don't count on it ~ I have IE 7 and there still are enough bugs to make css frustrating, lol. I'll stick with the FF now that I finally downloaded it!
acrafty1 wrote on Mar 17
(of course, the links are still good to look save and look over if you can make sense out it, lol)

The good news part is a joke. lol Smoke and mirrors.

is it difficult to switch to FF after you have IE7?
hanzrobin wrote on Mar 17
Depends on the user. FF didn't play nice with my laptop so I was forced to uninstall it, others have been overjoyed with it. Just depends.
davkal wrote on Mar 17
Carolyn
you dont have to switch just download Firefox
an make sure on your computer screen you have both showing so you can choose whichever one you want to
use. i run both an just click on the one i want - or use both at the same time,,lol
carolyn42 wrote on Mar 17
ok thank you
i'll try it :)
dantcer wrote on Mar 17
You can set FF to be your default browser but you will still have both browsers. Firefox has more add ons and you can even add the IE Tab add on which loads faster than IE.

Exactly....this is what I have done and it has worked out fine for me overall ~ there are some glitches (though it still works) using my Hotmail account with FF, but I suspect that's because it was designed to work with IE. With anything else I've had no problems though (and I'm using a laptop).
dantcer wrote on Mar 17
Use the IE Tab addon for your hotmail. ;)

I use IE7 so all that stuff about fixing bugs is garbage - as I found out today when I saw my site on IE for the first time in a while. This is how my face looked when I realized just how horrible the difference was.

I have to thank Manda for showing me this link.
halitochatah wrote on May 27
soooo is there an "official" code for fixing this issue? i don't "speak css" that well and i am having issues with people in my group who (unfortunately) use IE and they say that the Navigation bar is hiding under the first box :(
dantcer wrote on May 27
It's trial and error depending on the theme. You can link to this group at your group and have your members join here. If they can't find anything here using the search feature, they can post in notes. Sometimes we just have to see their page to see the problem to fix it.
halitochatah wrote on May 27
i just made the nav. bar vertical....problemo solved :)

thanks so much :)
