So you’re browsing the web and come across an image that you want to save to your computer. There are various ways that you can go about doing this. Most people do the right click, save as.. thing. TEDIOUS!
DID YOU KNOW... That all you have to do using Firefox or IE, is drag an image directly to your computer ? You can do this from a web page or from any album here! And this trick works from the thumbnails page HERE as well! So you can grab an entire album of photos to your computer with no more right clicking!
It works like a champ in both Firefox and Internet Explorer, and completely bypasses the Save-As dialog making it a quick way to save images. Similarly you can also drag and drop hyperlinks to your desktop to create a bookmark/shortcut to that page. I did, however, find out that if an image is hyperlinked it will create a shortcut rather than saving the actual image. Give it a try!
If you can drag and drop it, I love it!
Regular image sizes (those that aren't hi res) are based on the base theme you are using. So they will vary. Note: If your image isn't perfectly square of course, then you won't get the square sizing as indicated below.

everdred wrote today at 12:28 PM, I did this the hard way. Could be inaccurate, so treat it as a rough guide. :)

Many thanks to Everett for doing this the hard way!
As we have this size restriction for free accounts now I thought I would try a work around. the latest theme I've made hasn't used any images over the 400x400 pixel size limitation the largest size image is the footer its 399x 200 pixels in diameter and 11kb in file size largest file size 62KB (blu-tile 379x382 pixels) a larger file size than the animation! The only image in the album for the theme that is larger than 400x400 is the screenshot 508x1179 which is only 48KB in file size actually a smaller file size than "blu-tile"
This just proves that it can be done a theme can be made and hosted on Multiply without fear of images being deleted in 30 days as not one of the images are classified as "high resolution"
How I managed this .. First and hardest part think of images that could be used , didn't want to go large of course they all had to be under the 400x400 so I went for a simple image of a fish a purple cartoon fish just to have a little fun with it as well I opened up Adobe Photoshop (if you don't have it you can use what you have) and brought up the image cut the background color off and saved it as a gif, this way it had a transparent background I also used Image Magic as I've got an older Adobe Photoshop to make an animation of the same fish and saved that as a smaller image size I used the bubbles from the image to make some dots to go on the theme as well and made quote ends and a "dimples" too match the colors on the fish. Now backgrounds of course they had to be seamlessly tiled so using the seamless tile filter that I have I made a purple background and a blue one And just to finish off a fish cursor of course a purple one and a yellow one for hover both saved as a gif.
Where do the images go... The purple background of course went in the CSS under the main body background and in the popups both edit boxes and profile, it also went into the table view so the background on "view groups and contacts" was the same as the main background and table view on "view as table" was the same as well The blue one that went in as replybox odd, gives a nice border effect that way and on the top header of table view
The main fishy header of course is small so I placed that align right, could go center or left but I like it on the right
The cursors, dimples and quote ends of course they went in as well wont explain how to do that you can find how to do that by searching Multiply Design
The fishy animation went in replybox textarea is a bit big for there actually might need to grab hold of the dimples and move them down so it can be seen but left it that size so it could go on as the header image instead
Oh yes the bubbles I made some bubble dots , those of course go in itemboxsub for the larger one and the smaller on the main link background (View All links) I also used the same larger bubble dot as a spacer between post and comments used repeat-x there so it went all the way accross same as I did in itemboxsub
Now of course I changed colors on a few things as well but we are talking images here not colors so wont go into that Hint: I use the color picker on Adobe to pick colors off the images
So there you go you not only now know how to make a theme within the size limit if you don't go premium but now know how I go about making a theme as well This theme hasn't even had the links made into tiny urls all links are same as they are on MultiplyHere is the link to the actual theme code the small images are in that album

For the most part of icons in table view here on MP (ie, Blog, Music, Video, Links, Notes [for groups]), we can individually change the icons via HTML (Read this). It's possible cuz it's HTML. Thing is, that's kinda hard to apply with the Photos and Reviews sections. We can however use CSS to replace the icons. But because it's CSS, it'll have to replace all the icons automatically. No way to change them individually. Unless <td>'s have a class or ID.
Codes:
/*photos*/ .albumthumbnails .tablediv1 tr.bg2 img {visibility:hidden;} .albumthumbnails .tablediv1 tr.bg2 { background: #eeeeee url(image location) left center scroll no-repeat;}
/*calendar*/ .calendarwrapper .tablediv1 tr.bg2 img {visibility:hidden;} .calendarwrapper .tablediv1 tr.bg2 { background: #eeeeee url(image location) left center scroll no-repeat;}
/*reviews*/ .reviewswrapper .tablediv1 tr.bg2 img {display: none;} .reviewswrapper .tablediv1 tr.bg2{ background: #eeeeee url(image location) left center scroll no-repeat;}
Note: The highlighted part (#eeeeee) is the default background color of tables. You might wanna replace them depending on your customized background color (eg, #fff or transparent, etc..). Another note: Icons in Reviews usually show how many stars you gave that particular review. By using these codes, you are replacing all those stars. Be it 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5...
Last note: Use an image which dimensions are close to 24 x 24.

I'm sure y'all thinking, "Who would wanna do that?"
Well, I just thought I should share this.. lol
Link: http://labs.wanokoto.jp/oldsI've seen a lot of theme makers do themes with a vintage-y feel. This site converts any old picture you have to look, well, really old! See what themes you can think of making and have fun!
Take note: If you get to the site and it's in Japanese, have no fear! You can click on the link on the upper right hand corner to translate the site into English.
Overlay Text On Images using HTML.
Here's an html code you can use to overlay text on an image. Change all of the properties (font, text etc) and add to them, to suit your needs.
Here's one where I've posted the code that is overlaying the text on this image. The text is not SAVED on the image. It's only overlayed here in this post using html. Right click, view background and you will see the image WITHOUT any text. And you will see that it's a background and not an image!
THIS MADE A FANTASTIC THEME !!!!!! Love it!
REMEMBER to change the image size (height & width) and font attributes to suit what you wish to use this for. Anywhere you use html to embed an image, you can add text to it this way.
Use the code box above to practice with. You can edit in that box without actually affecting this post. :) Just close and reopen and my code will be back as it was.
Hotlinking and Bandwidth Theft SimplifiedBandwidth refers to the amount of data transferred from a web site to a user's computer. When you view a web page, you are using that site's bandwidth to display the files. Since web hosts charge based on the amount of data transferred, bandwidth is an issue. If a site is over its monthly bandwidth, it's billed for the extra data or taken offline.
Laymans terms: Copying and pasting ANY graphic from ANY site other than your own is hotlinking and bandwidth theft unless you have permission from the site owner and creator to do so.
When you copy and paste someone's images from another site to your page, you are using their bandwidth...this means you are costing someone money! If their bandwidth is exceeded, not only will they have to pay more for their images to show up in the future on their own site---but you will start seeing red x's or "image not found" messages wherever you have copied and pasted the image. And we have all seen that here at Multiply. Usually though because someone has hosted somewhere else, and then used the image here. (That's why I always recommend hosting your Multiply images at Multiply and then that doesn't happen)
What can happen to you if you hotlink?? Most websites do NOT allow hotlinking (again they are paying for that space) And they do have several options to take action against you. They can tell where their image is being displayed, and by whom and take action accordingly. If I was paying for a site and the bandwidth, and I found someone was intentionally hotlinking my images without permission, the first thing I would do is delete the image they hotlinked--put a new image with the exact same file name with a message..that way everywhere they copied and pasted the image--they would see that message and NOT the image they planned on. If you were expecting a particular image to show in your post or page, and it actually does at first... and then later on before you realize it, a different image appeared that included the words "image stolen - shame on me" ,you would think twice about doing it again, right?
I have seen this on someone's page here on Multiply! And a lot of other people saw it before the Multiply user did and got it off there. lol (Sorry, but it WAS funny and I knew what happened) Though the intent was not malicious, the results were the same. The person just didn't know! They just copy and pasted an entire page that included an image without realizing... you can't do that without permission!!
Hotlinking and bandwidth theft is NEVER the right thing to do...NEVER. If you see an image on a site that you want, first make sure the site is giving you permission to snag the images--and secondly, save it to your computer FIRST. Then YOU host it in an album, here or other image hosting site that you are a member of and use it from there.
How can you tell if an image has been hotlinked?? Yes, even you can tell! You can right click on any image and hit Properties..and that gives you the HTTP address of where the image is hosted.
In the case of Multiply photos that are shared, its may be a little trickier to tell if its been copied and pasted, but the same thing applies. Right click, properties and if the image ends in the same letters/numbers as the original image--then its been hotlinked.
So please don't hotlink to my images without permission - or instead of the image you think you are using, you just might see this later in it's place.... LOL SAVE the image to your computer first and host it yourself!
There are exceptions to the rule of bandwidth theft though. If I hotlink (with permission of course) by copying and pasting something that includes an image from a Multiply page TO a Multiply page, then I'm not stealing your bandwidth nor costing Multiply extra money. I'm still hotlinking, (with permission) but I'm not stealing bandwidth. Because it's all within the same Service. However, if they pull their image, then my pasted image disappears also. I'd rather take the extra step to keep my content's appearance!
NOTE: Multiply currently allows photos to be hosted on Multiply and used on other sites. They do however, mark or watermark these photos with the Multiply logo.
(This is a repost of a post I did at usersupport .)
Very simple code to place an image, as shown in this screenshot. The image will appear on every reply box in your theme. Adjust the font codes to suit you. Change the position if you wish.
Host your (small) image in your photo album. Insert the image properties url in the code.
Put the code at the end of your CSS. This works with still images or moving gifs. See example, my guestbook. >>>>>>dantcer
.replybox textarea { background:transparent url(IMAGE URL HERE) no-repeat scroll right bottom; color:#FFFFFF; font-size:13px; font-weight:bold; }
This code will replace those ugly Green arrow images on your homepage with an image of your choice. Choose a SMALL image to use, host it in an album here at Multiply, and copy the properties' image url into the section of code designated below. Then copy and paste the entire code as the last entry in your css.
a.select, a.select:link, a.select:visited { background:transparent url(put image url here); background-position: bottom left; background-repeat: no-repeat; }
.add, a.add:link, a.add:visited{ background:transparent url(put image url here); background-position: bottom left; background-repeat: no-repeat; }
(An image that is too large will not display correctly. Works with still image or moving gif.)
